Specific Need

Our goal for 2026 is to replace the old wooden sign at the corner of Leawood and Main with a larger Carthage stone sign with elements similar to the Oakwood entrance.  We have a design concept and preliminary cost estimate and will be finalizing these in the early part of 2026.  

Mission

Our mission is to repair, preserve and maintain Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons, Kansas by raising funds and educating people about the importance of the site and the fascinating people that are buried there.

Profile

Dave Mattox founded the Historic Oakwood Cemetery Improvements group in July of 2022.  Members include John Cole, Lori Naramore, Suzanne Wood, Dave Mattox, Marty Mendicki, and Dawna Farran.  With a shared interest in learning about and preserving Oakwood Cemetery, the group has made significant achievements in the past three years.  Income generated is used to preserve the history and make improvements so that future generations can learn about and enjoy this Parsons treasure.
