Specific Need

The most pressing item right now is the G.A.R. Circle #2. To repair this, the Circle would need to be disassembled, a proper footing dug and poured, and then reassembled. Hopefully, most of the pieces-concrete and cut limestone- could be reused and mortared back together so that the Circle looks like a historic structure, not a newly poured concrete retaining wall.

Mission

Our mission is to repair, preserve and maintain the most important historic site in Parsons, Ks- Oakwood Cemetery.

Profile

Dave Mattox is a member of the Historic Oakwood Cemetery Improvement Committee.  He founded this group to bring together people with a shared interest of preserving Oakwood Cemetery.  The City cannot afford repairs beyond ordinary maintenance.  Hopefully, by organizing the committee and fund, income will be generated to preserve the history and make improvements so that future generations can learn about and enjoy this Parsons treasure.
