Donna's Pet Food Pantry, a mission of First Presbyterian Church

Goal: $5,000.00

Specific Need

Donna's Pet Food Pantry serves families who are in need of pet food.

Mission

Donna’s Pet Food Pantry provides assistance to responsible pet owners who are struggling to feed their pets. Our goal is to demonstrate God’s love in our community by helping people keep their pets in times of financial hardship through distribution of free pet food and other pet supplies.

Profile

Donna's Pet Food Pantry is named for Donna Seeley, a long time resident of Parsons, Ks. She was an advocate for people and animals. This pantry was created to help animals stay with their families, thereby reducing the number of strays and easing the over crowding of local shelters.

The pantry provides food to families four times a year. There is an application process that includes screening for breeders. Recipients are strongly encouraged to have their pets spayed or neutered.

Pets are an important part of many people's lives. Having a pet can reduce loneliness and provide a better quality of life for people who live alone. Elderly people and people on fixed income are particularly vulnerable to having difficulty purchasing pet food. They are often faced with the choice of buying their food or food for their animals. Many times, they choose to feed the animals. Young families are also faced with economic hardships. One recipient stated that she could not afford cat food one month because formula and diapers were so expensive.

This pantry increases quality of life for both people and their pets.
